NEW CIRCUS - NEW PERFORMING ARTS: MISE-EN-SCÈNE is arranged by Copenhagen International Theatre in co-operation with the Dept. for Theatre Science at the University of Copenhagen and the Danish Artist Union with funding from the Danish Arts Council and the Danish Artist Union.

 
   
- a seminar about the challenges of staging New Circus creations

Copenhagen International Theatre will focus on specific topics connected with New Circus through a number of seminars over the coming 3 years. The seminars will be arranged in co-operation with the Department of Theatre Science at the University of Copenhagen and the Danish Artist Union. The aim is to create perspective and knowledge about a new genre in the Danish performing arts, so in the future it will be possible to evaluate, comment and discuss new circus performances on a high level among all interested parties.

The seminars will focus on

2005: Staging New Circus - focus on factual experiences in the process of creating New Circus performances with a dramaturgic course.
2006: The Space - focus on the space, incl. the concept of the circus arena and the circus tent, the "blanket" separating the artists from the audience etc.
2007: New Circus as space for cross-over arts, where we focus on the merging of stage art, music, architecture and visual art as a setting for New Circus performances.

The first seminar has been titled: NEW CIRCUS - NEW PERFORMING ARTS: MISE-EN-SCÈNE, and will be held at the University of Copenhagen 1. - 3. December 2005.

Ph.D. Michael Eigtved, Dept. of Theatre Science at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Presentations and performances tied together with the seminar (please note that tickets for the Nova Exit performance must be ordered together with the enrolment to the seminar)

Llenties I Marabú by and with Escarlarta Circus, December 1st at 8.30 pm at Multisalen at the University, this performance is free for the people attending the seminar.

Roundabout with Nova Exit, Pre-premiere 2nd December at 8 p.m. - tickets cost DKK 50.- (seminar price) or Saturday December 3rd Premiere - Tickets DKK 165,- less youth concessions (under 25) if applicable.

The seminar applies to professionals within stage art, journalists, organisers and politicians. Information on the seminar will be updated regularly.

The first Danish seminar on New Circus was held in 2000. It became a general introduction to the New Circus concept and the history behind it. It resulted in the first Danish publication on New Circus: Det Teatrale Cirkus (The Theatrical Circus), edited by Michael Eigtved.
